Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults [RCIA]

Prepares un-baptized individuals and those already baptized in another Christian church to become participating members of our Roman Catholic faith. The RCIA program is also open to parishioners desiring to enrich their faith.

The RCIA program begins in September and concludes with the Easter Vigil when candidates and catechumens enter into full communion of the Catholic faith.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Children [RCIC]

Prepares children over the age of seven without sacramental preparation who are un-baptized or baptized in another faith, to receive the sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil.

Catechumen vs. Candidate

  • A catechumen is a person who is not baptized. Catechumens become full members of the Catholic Church by means of baptism, confirmation and Eucharist, which are referred to as the sacraments of initiation.
  • Candidates are adults who were baptized as infants, either as Roman Catholics or members of another Christian community, but did not receive further catechetical formation, specifically, the sacraments of confirmation and Eucharist.
